Social competence means skills in the interpersonal sphere. A person is socially competent when their individual skills and abilities allow them adequately to deal with the demands of an interpersonal situation. Appropriate characteristics are capacity for self-assessment, empathy, a willingness to cooperate, the capability to handle conflict and communication.
